Progress Report: 7.17.2021
Grasshopper Family,
I had to defer the update by one day. I simply could not wait until next Friday. Nope. Wasn't going to happen.
I boarded a flight with my wife and daughters three years ago bound for Philadelphia from Detroit. We had just visited Mackinac Island for the first time. A good trip if you ever have the chance to visit. We boarded the flight and passed someone familiar. Wilson Chandler. We enjoy watching all of our local Philly teams. We like watching the 76ers and he was on the team at the time. We deplaned and headed to retrieve our bags...and Wilson was there. My daughters asked if they could go say hi and he could not have been nicer. We stayed well past having all of our bags and after everyone else had departed.
I post every day on all social media platforms. I happened to come across a pro-cannabis tweet from Wilson Chandler. He is also from Benton Harbor, Michigan. So, I reached out to see if he would be interested in learning more about what we are doing at Grasshopper Farms and to take a tour of the farm. And that happened today.
Wilson came out with two friends, JB and John. We gave them a full tour and told them the whole story about who we are and what we are building. Wilson had seen the pictures. He had seen the videos. But, he said the same thing that everyone says...it's totally different in person. He and his friends were very impressed and are looking forward to coming back to see how our plants continue to grow.
Heck, I haven't been here for two weeks and it looks different to me as well!
And here is why.
All of the beds are complete. All of the fabric pots are filled. All of the plants are in their permanent pots. All of the irrigation lines are in place. AND...we are even starting to plant some plants directly into the ground to do a little research and development. They are in the hoop house and just about ready to head over to our newly designated Bed 20.
The first plants that went outside are now taller than I am. Our outdoor plant count is now over 5,000. All of the plants look amazing. They are lush. They are vibrant. They are an incredible shade of green. Each bed now has a sign at both ends with a number. The dirt mixer (Sir Mix A Lot) has been moved out of the field and is now parked. We are in plant care mode and it is going quite well.
Our team is stronger than ever. And our plants are as healthy as they could possibly be. The sunrises continue to amaze me.
We are truly blessed with this opportunity.
